Author Guidelines

How to submit

The journal accepts submissions by email only. No website account is required and manuscripts are not accepted through the OJS submission dashboard.

Use the subject line “Submission + author name + manuscript title”. Attach an editable Word manuscript and a PDF proof. Author information and the anonymized review manuscript should be supplied separately.

Required information

Include the Chinese and English title, author name, affiliation, correspondence email, abstract, keywords, main text, notes or references, and captions for any figures and tables. Provide a short author biography and contact details separately. Authors must identify sources and obtain all necessary permissions for third-party images, tables, datasets and other materials before submission.

Originality, authorship and ethics

  • The manuscript must be original, not formally published, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Every listed author must have made a substantive contribution, approved the submission and agreed to the author order.
  • Sources must be cited accurately. Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication and improper fragmentation are prohibited.
  • Research involving human participants, sensitive data or other matters requiring ethics review must comply with applicable law and professional standards.
  • Funding and all relevant conflicts of interest must be disclosed.

Editorial and peer-review process

The editors screen submissions for scope, originality, baseline quality, ethics and format. A manuscript may be declined without external review. Suitable research manuscripts are sent for peer review where appropriate. The editors may request revisions, supporting information or evidence of permissions and retain final authority over acceptance, scheduling, withdrawal or rejection.

Submission acknowledgement and data

By submitting by email, authors confirm that they have read and accepted these guidelines, the privacy policy and the copyright notice, and authorize the editorial office to process manuscript and personal data for editorial assessment, peer review, publication communication, integrity checks and record keeping. Submission is not a promise of acceptance, publication date or indexing.

Publication licence

After acceptance, authors must approve the final version and publication licence. Unless a separate written assignment is signed, authors retain copyright and grant the journal a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to first publish, reproduce, distribute, communicate online, archive, reformat, and supply the accepted version and metadata to lawful indexing and preservation services. Third-party content remains subject to its own rights terms.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Email submissions only. Before sending a manuscript, confirm that it is original and not under consideration elsewhere; every author has approved the submission and author order; abstracts, keywords, citations and references are complete; third-party permissions have been obtained; ethics approval, conflicts and funding are disclosed where applicable; and the privacy policy and copyright notice have been read.

Privacy Statement

Privacy Policy and Personal Information Collection Statement

The journal processes personal data in accordance with the applicable Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and data protection principles. This policy applies to website use, email submissions, editorial and peer-review correspondence, and publication-related communication.

Data collected and purposes

We may collect names, contact details, affiliations, titles, biographies, ORCID identifiers, manuscripts, co-author and reviewer information, correspondence, and basic technical logs or session cookies required for security and operation. Data is used for identity verification, editorial assessment, peer review, publication, corrections, research-integrity checks, rights and dispute handling, security, legal records, and the supply of published metadata to lawful indexing and preservation services. We do not use personal data for direct marketing without the applicable notice and consent.

Disclosure and international processing

Data is disclosed only as reasonably necessary to editors, invited reviewers, publishing or technical service providers such as hosting and email providers, indexing and preservation services, or competent authorities where legally required. Data may be processed across borders because contributors, reviewers and services may be located in different jurisdictions. Reasonable measures are taken to limit use and protect the data.

Retention and security

Author names, affiliations and bibliographic information for published works are retained as part of the scholarly record. Rejected or withdrawn manuscripts and related correspondence are normally retained for no longer than three years and then deleted or anonymized, unless a longer period is reasonably necessary for integrity, rights, security or legal matters. Reasonable access controls, backup and technical safeguards are used, although no Internet transmission can be guaranteed absolutely secure.

Access and correction

Requests to access or correct personal data, and questions concerning retention or deletion, may be sent to editor@renwenkexue.com. Identity may be verified before a request is processed. Deletion may be limited where law, the integrity of the published record or the public interest requires retention.
